In a statement on Tuesday, CEO of EgyptAir Airlines Amr Abul-Enein said the Luxor-London flight service, usually operated during the Winter season, will have one weekly flight carrying 140 passengers.

The step comes in correspondence with the inauguration of Egypt’s activities at the World Travel Market 2021 London (WTM) on Monday, which were attended by Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Manar and Tourism Minister Khaled El-Enani.

During the inauguration, Manar said his ministry seeks to boost aviation flow to Egypt from the UK, especially at the Egyptian airports in coastal cities.

He also hailed the strategic relations between Egypt and Britain in various fields, saying the two countries have been among the first to be linked with an air transport agreement.

As Egypt gears up for the winter tourism season, EgyptAir resumed flights between Luxor, a city that is known for ancient antiquities, and the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in October after a six-year hiatus.

The move is part of the state’s efforts to allow local and foreign tourists to have an integrated experience of leisure and cultural tourism through linking coastal and heritage cities.

Luxor also prepares for a planned reopening ceremony of the Rams Road after its restoration. No official date has been set for the reopening to date, but officials expect it to be held later this month.

Officials affirm that the reopening ceremony will be as magnificent as the Golden Pharaohs’ Parade that captured international attention in April.

Egypt resumed international flights in June last year after a three-month-suspension due to the pandemic, opening its major tourist attractions amid strict coronavirus measures.

The country announced earlier this year that it had vaccinated all workers in the tourism sector in its Red Sea resorts, with vaccination efforts for tourism workers in Luxor and Aswan ongoing.
