Head of Egypt's General Intelligence discussed unification of Libya's military in Benghazi: Al-Hadath

Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel discussed the unification of Libya’s military institutions with the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi on Thursday, Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath News channel reported.

According to sources that spoke with Al-Hadath, Abbas and Haftar discussed the departure of foreign fighters from Libya as well as the integration of the LNA with other Libyan state institutions.

Kamel conveyed a message from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to Haftar praising the efforts of the Libyan army in achieving stability and fighting terrorism.

Earlier on Thursday, Kamel met with Libyan PM Abdul-Hamid Dbeibeh and other Libyan officials in Tripoli and delivered a message from President El-Sisi praising their efforts in bringing stability to the country.

According to the sources that spoke with Al-Hadath, during the visit the head of the GIS continued Egyptian efforts to promote reconciliation between the LNA in Benghazi and the Libyan unity government in Tripoli.
