An Egyptian prosecutor ordered on Wednesday the four-day detention of two minibus drivers involved in a train accident in Cairo on Monday, which caused the death of two women.
A cargo train collided with two stopped minibuses carrying workers on Monday in Cairo's Helwan district, leaving two people dead and six others injured.
The prosecution ordered the drivers to undergo drug testing.
The two drivers were arrested while attempting to flee shortly after the accident, according to the prosecution.
The Ministry of Transport said on Monday the minibuses were stopped at a residential area through which the railroad passes, and the locomotive driver was not able to sop the train.
Cairo governor Khaled Abdel-Aal also visited the site of the collision along with police personnel before checking on the people injured at hospitals.
Egypt's railway system has had a poor safety record for decades, with deadly collisions and accidents that are often blamed on poor maintenance and management becoming a frequent occurrence.
The government has been implementing ambitious multi-billion-pound projects to replace hundreds of old train carriages and modernise an obsolete signalling system.
