The UNICEF called for an end of “all violence” between Palestinians and Israelis on Monday.
“I call on all sides to end all violence and de-escalate tensions. I urge all sides to protect all civilians, especially children; to spare essential civilian infrastructure from attacks; and to end violations against children. I remind all sides of their obligations under international humanitarian law and human rights law,” the UNICEF said.
The UN agency which focuses on child protection said at least 14 Palestinian children have lost their lives since Monday, in addition to a single Israeli child.
The UNICEF warned that the situation is at a “dangerous tipping point”, stressing that “we are on the brink of a full-scale war”.
“In any war, children — all children — suffer first and suffer most,” the UNICEF concluded.
Israel plans to evict several Palestinians families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in east Jerusalem.
This resulted in Palestinian protests that were faced by an aggressive crackdown, as well as rocket attacks by a Palestinian faction in Gaza that Israel launched endless airstrikes on in response to.
More than 83 Gazans have lost their lives, including 17 children, while hundreds have been wounded.
Israeli settlers and forces have also stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, preventing Palestinians from reaching it and attacking them, which regularly happens all year round.
