Egyptian sprinter Bassant Hemida pulls out of Tokyo Games due to injury
Hemida was the only sprinter among the Egyptian athletes in Tokyo
Egyptian sprinter Bassant Hemida pulled out of the Olympic Games after failing to recover from an injury in time, she said on Friday.
Hemida underwent a rehabilitation program after tearing a muscle during her pre-Olympics training camp but could not make it to Tokyo.
"This might be one of the most difficult periods of my life, but thanks God for everything," she said on her Facebook page.
"I completely believe that it is the beginning of my sports career and not the end despite the difficult situation and my inability now to overcome it, but God is very generous.
"I'm happy and proud of every step in my Olympic qualification journey, even if it was not completed at the last stage. Happiness is found in the journey, not only in the end result."
Hemida was the only sprinter among the Egyptian athletes at the Olympics.
