15:00 Egypt's U23 football team reach the Olympic Games quarter-final with a 2-0 victory over Australia in their final Group C game. They will meet Brazil in the last eight on Saturday.

14:00 Tennis table player Omar Assar is eliminated after losing 4-1 to 2016 gold medalist and world champion Ma Long of China in the quarter-final.
12:15 Swimmer Farida Osman finishes third in Heat 3 of the Women's 100m freestyle in 55.74 seconds to miss out on a place in the semis after ending 33rd in the overall ranking.

10:00 Egypt's Abdel-Aziz Mehelba finishes ninth in the qualification round of the men's shooting trap with 73 points. Compatriot Ahmed Zaher comes 22nd with 71 points. 

08:45 Egypt's handball team beat Japan 33-29 for their second win out of three group-stage games. Egypt are now third in Group B with four points, two behind Denmark and Sweden. The top four will advance to the quarter-finals. 

08:10 Egypt’s fencing team beat Iran 45-24 to claim the fifth place in the Sabre event.
