Zamalek coach Carteron seeks stability, equality with sole league rivals Ahly
Rivalry in the Egyptian Premier League this season is only between Ahly and Zamalek, according to the Whites' coach Patrice Carteron

Zamalek coach Patrice Carteron believes that his club needs more stability to compete well this season, seeking equality with archrivals Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League.
“Zamalek needs more stability to compete well this season. The club lacked stability in recent months and at the same time players were always asked to concentrate and win,” Carteron told Zamalek TV channel on Wednesday.
Zamalek has been facing difficulties on the managerial level since the suspension of the elected board headed by Mortada Mansour over financial irregularities since last November; a fact that affected the team’s performance negatively according to Carteron.
“Zamalek faces difficult circumstances in the league, and we should fight to overcome fatigue, unlike rivals Ahly, who protect their players from everything and also from exhaustion. I hope we find equality in all conditions,” added the French tactician who was reappointed as the Whites coach on 21 March after the sacking of Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco.
The 50-year-old Carteron is currently serving a two-match touchline ban for arguing with the referee of the game against Ismaily in the Egypt Cup late in May.
“I am sorry for my reaction in the Ismaily game, but I felt angry for seeing many of my players shown many cards during the match,” the coach said.
“Generally, refereeing is good in Egypt, but referees should be focused, as everyone has a limit to enduring such situations,” he added.
Ahly the only rivals
Zamalek currently top the league table with 55 points after playing 25 games, 14 points ahead of title holders Ahly, who can pull clear if they win their six matches in hand.
“Rivalry in the league this season is only between Ahly and Zamalek, and I am waiting for the announcement of Ahly’s postponed games to see the future of the competition,” the former Ahly coach Carteron explained.
“Sure, I hope that we win the Egypt Cup title this season, as I didn’t win it before. I want to win the domestic double with Zamalek this season,” added Carteron, who led Zamalek to win the CAF Super Cup 2020 and the 2019/20 Egyptian Super Cup titles in his previous spell with the club.
