Egypt’s national football team director Wael Gomaa revealed that the Pharaohs are doing their best to beat Libya in the coming two games in the 2022 African World Cup qualifiers to snatch the Group F lead and book a place in the prestigious tournament.

The Pharaohs started their mission in the World Cup qualifiers by beating Angola 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Gabon to place second in Group F ranking, while Libya are in the lead of the group's ranking with a full mark of six points after winning their two games.

"Egypt will face a difficult mission against Libya. Our target is to win the coming two games against the North African national team to snatch the lead of the group," Gomaa said on television late on Wednesday.

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah missed Egypt's 1-0 home win over Angola in the qualifiers due to the United Kingdom’s recently imposed travel restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19.

"We hope Salah could join Egypt’s national team ahead of the two games against Libya. We are waiting for some changes in England's travel restrictions," Gomaa added.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) named Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz the new national team coach, replacing coach Hossam El-Badry due to the team's poor performance in the World Cup qualifiers.

Queiroz will start his mission with two games against Libya in the qualifiers in October.
