Influential defender Mahmoud 'El-Wensh' Hamdi has signed a four-year contract extension with Zamalek that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2025, the Cairo giants announced on Sunday.

The 26-year-old joined Zamalek in the summer of 2016, becoming one of the best defenders in Egypt with a series of impressive displays in the heart of Zamalek's defence.  His form earned him a regular place in Egypt's squad under coach Hossam E-Badry.

He has made 29 appearances with Zamalek so far this season, scoring twice.

Zamalek also announced on Sunday that they are close on renewing the contract of winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed in the coming days.

However, the fate of Tunisian midfielder Ferjani Sassi remains up in the air, with Zamalek still unable to meet his financial demands to prolong his stay.

Widespread reports linked Sassi, whose contract with Zamalek had already expired, with a move to the Qatari league, although nothing has been made official yet.
