5.6 magnitude earthquake recorded south east of Upper Egypt's Aswan Monday; no casualties
An earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitude on the Richter scale has been recorded south east of Upper Egypt’s Aswan on Monday morning, Egypt's National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) said in a statement.
The NRIAG explained that its stations and other international stations reported an earthquake at the Gulf of Aden - approximately 2,111 km south east of Aswan.
The quake was reported at 4:44 am local time, according to the NRIAG.
The Gulf of Aden region and the entrance to the Red Sea felt seismic activity due to the widening of the sea entrance and the tectonic activity of the African Rift Valley in East Africa, the NRIAG said.
There were no reports of casualties.
