In his remarks on Saturday regime President Hassan Rouhani sought to portray the situation as quite normal in Iran by claiming the fourth peak is coming to an end. He went on to say the peak of the fourth wave is over, but the country still remains in the fourth wave, adding it may take another few weeks for this wave to come to an end.

“Right now, we need to import foreign vaccines. Some are saying if we wait a bit the domestic vaccine will be available. This is not precise. Whichever one becomes available first, there should be no delays… The government has a duty to purchase and import this vaccine,” he added.

Chair of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) Health Committee reflected on the decisions made by Rouhani and the National Covid-19 Task Force. “This task force is not listening to the recommendations. One example is this fourth peak, during which they did not listen to recommendations and did not limit commuting and traveling prior to Nowruz, the Iranian calendar New Year, on March 21. The result was the fourth peak,” this regime MP said on Saturday. “The President said on March 27 in the National Covid-19 Task Force that the peak has come to an end. However, on April 14 we witnessed the beginning of the fourth peak,” this MP continued, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“The number of patients hospitalized for coronavirus is extremely high. In five provinces although we have reached the fourth peak, the trend has yet to start declining at a fast rate. The provinces of North Khorasan, East Azerbaijan, Hormozgan and Tehran are in need of precise measures and more care as they have nearly reached the peak,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“We have 2003 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 382 are in ICUs. In the past 24 hours we have lost 33 patients to Covid-19,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“19 coronavirus patients lost their lives in the past 24 hours in [Alborz] province. The total death count stands at 3692,” said the dean of Alborz Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“84 percent of the tests conducted in this province yesterday were positive,” said the dean of North Khorasan Medical Sciences University on Saturday. “Some areas are considered ultra-red zones,” this official added, according to the regime’s official IRIB news agency.

“Currently Ardabil province is experiencing days of death. 79 people are in ICUs and are in dire conditions,” said the dean of Ardabil Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“In the fourth wave we experienced a heavy storm that may not be experienced again in history. We surpassed a tsunami. The provinces of Markazi and Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmad had the highest number of people hospitalized,” said the dean of Arak Medical Sciences University on Saturday. “Each day we had 18 patients hospitalized for every 100,000 people. Today the trend is decreasing and stands at 13 for every 100,000 people while the capital was at 12 at the peak of this illness. This means the status quo in Markazi province is worse than the peak seen in Tehran. In some provinces they have detected the Indian variant and if we have a wave initiating from the previous wave, the medical professional will not be able to cope with the resulting situation,” this official warned, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Currently we have 794 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 194 are in ICUs,” according to a statement released on Saturday by the Mazandaran & Babol Medical Sciences University.
