Undergraduate Applicants
Due to snow accumulations Friday night, the severe weather and emergency conditions policy for Duke University and Duke University Health System will be extended until noon Saturday, Jan. 22. Visit the DukeALERT website for detailed information and updates.
Since admission at Duke is need-blind for U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and undocumented students, we never consider a student's ability to pay when making an admission decision. Once admitted, Duke pledges to meet 100% of a student’s financial need by providing funding for the cost not covered by the calculated family contribution.
How Does It Work?
The financial support process at Duke begins by determining how much a family can contribute toward the cost of education. Duke reviews each student’s aid application and ultimately determines the amount the student and family would be expected to pay—an amount we call the Expected Family Contribution, or EFC. Any remaining costs are covered by our office in the form of grants, work study, and limited student loans.
