Four Tabbed All-South Region

DURHAM – The Duke men's soccer program has earned four selections to the All-South Region teams, as sophomores Peter Stroud and Thorleifur Ulfarsson were named to the first team and freshman Shakur Mohammed and senior Ian Murphy to the third team, as the United Soccer Coaches announced Tuesday.

Ulfarsson adds another honor to his decorated sophomore campaign after joining the Blue Devils last spring. Of the many awards recorded in 2021, Ulfarsson was tabbed as the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, All-ACC First Team, and several other exclusive lists throughout the year. A native of Kopavogur, Iceland, Ulfarsson has been one of the top scorers in the nation, with 15 goals and one assist for 31 points in just 16 games.

A native of Chester, N.J., Stroud has become one of the top two-way players in the country and recently was named the 2021 ACC Midfielder of the Year. Stroud finished the season with career highs in goals (4), assists (4), points (12) and minutes played (1,711), becoming a key piece of the counterattack and in possession and scoring the game winning goal against UCLA in the second round of the NCAA Championship. One of five team captains, Stroud also was named All-ACC First Team and selected to the ACC's All-Tournament Team.

Hailing from Kumasi, Ghana, Mohammed had a breakout freshman campaign and checks in as one of three freshmen in the region to be named to an all-region team. The 2021 ACC Freshman of the Year, Mohammed ranked second on the team in total points with 13, registering three goals and seven assists. Mohammed also was named All-ACC Second Team and to the ACC's All-Freshman Team for his efforts.

A senior from Redlands, Calif., Murphy played a key role as a center back in anchoring a defense that limited only 23 goals in 20 games. Murphy played in every game for the Blue Devils, ranking second on the team in minutes played at 1,748 and registering two assists. Over his four years at Duke, Murphy played in 69 games and registered four goals and seven assists for 15 points in over 5,700 minutes.
