Campus Life

From the sound of the drums beating in the morning, to the cheers of the crowds at a basketball game at night, daily scenes of diverse activities on the Haskell campus are like threads in the fabric of campus life.
A sense of family prevails at Haskell. Of campus life in general, one current student says, “There is a unity I feel here I have felt nowhere else.” Says another, more simply, “I love it here.”

Life at Haskell

Haskell offers a number of tools and resources to help assist students at HINU. Below are useful links to help inform you, get you involved, and support your Haskell educational experience.

Annual Events

The school year hums with activities big and small, including Homecoming; theatrical performances; tournaments and competitions; movie nights and cultural excursions; visiting speakers; the crowning each Spring, of Miss Haskell and Haskell Brave; and each May, a truly inspirational Commencement and multi-day Powwow and Native American Arts Festival.

American Indian Higher Education Consortium

Each year, students from Haskell and the other 36 AIHEC (American Indian Higher Education Consortium) Tribal colleges and universities participate in the Annual AIHEC Student Conference. AIHEC provides students the opportunity to be part of the national student congress, as well as numerous competitions during the spring conference. In 2016, Haskell students came away with an impressive eight awards.

Haskell Indian Art Market

The Haskell Indian Art Market is an annual event held during the 2nd weekend in September each year. Originally part of the Lawrence Indian Art Show, the Haskell Indian Art Market is now a separate entity attracting hundreds of visitors each year. The Market provides an economic opportunity for Native American artists, as well as encouraging cross-cultural understanding and exchange.  Learn more ›
