Enable Process and Enrich Citations to run as a scheduled job
This job needs to be run on a regular basis to ensure that all citations are linked to repository records, but this must currently be done manually by a member of library staff. It would be very useful if the job could be scheduled to run automatically.

Hi Miriam,
So at the moment we could create a set, run the Citation Bulk Update job to detach the citations, then run the Process and Enrich Citations job on the same set of citations.
So I think the only thing missing is the ability to schedule it - I understand the performance issue, so could the job maybe be allowed to be scheduled but only for a maximum set size of say 500 citations?

Hi,
After researching this idea, we have concluded it will not be feasible.
The job is working under the assumption that it will run about twice a year (before the semester start).
Running it regularly will cause a performance issue.I do, however, want to share an update on our plans.
The option to detach citations from bibliographic records already exists in the Citation Bulk Update job. It can run on a set of citations.
We will also add the option to run the Process and Enrich Citations on a set of citations instead of the entire database. We hope you will enjoy our future developments.

We've asked Ex Libris if Is there a way to run this process, or a different process, on citations which aren't detached. However, they've confirmed it only scans detached records.
The scenario here is that we have a citation that links to a print record, but we then buy an eBook. We want the citation to link to the eBook, but this only seems possible if we manually detach the citation from the repository, and then run the job. Ideally, there would be various options on the automation to cover situations like this.

Can ExLibris provide an update on this please? Running it manually *again* today ;-)

Hoping there will be a status update from Ex Libris on this longstanding request.

Run automatically this job is a must for us!

Can citations already linked to repository records be automatically updated? Possible use case - a library is using CZ records for eResources management & discovery. The records are enriched periodically so it would be good if the citation could reflect the changes.

We too would like to be able to use this job to retrospectively auto-locate citations if a bibliographic record is imported at a later date after the citation is created (as happens frequently with new reading list purchases).
We were pleased to see that the job can now be limited to Resource Type book, but we were surprised to discover that it has to run on all books. There is no way of limiting to those not previously resources located. Not only does this make it a huge job, but we run the risk of it un-attaching citations we have manually edited and re-locating them to an alternative record. We do not understand why the job cannot be configured to point to unlocated items only. This was possible with our previous reading list supplier.
If this function was available we would like to be be able to able to schedule the job, probably 2-3 times a week, but at the moment it is not fit for our purpose. I'm happy to raise a separate idea for this if it is more appropriate.
Many thanks -

We assumed that locating the citation in Network zone would be enough for Alma to automatically update the Leganto list after the book had been ordered, and by that the record has been added to our Institution zone. Unfortunately, this is not the case. It is not the person putting up the list who will do the ordering, so we frequently have to choose citations from the NZ. An automated job for enable process and enrich citations would solve this problem in some way.

The issue we have at the moment, is that resource locate is set to match by title and isbn. However this causes issues for other resource types that don't typically have an ISBN. For example, we have many videos added to our list, which end up with incorrect metadata after being 'resource located' incorrectly. It would be good to be able to have filters on the enrich citations jobs, so that certain material types can be included/excluded. Do we have any more updates on this idea from ExLibris please? I can raise a separate idea for additional filters on the enrich citations job, if it can't be included as part of this.

Thoroughly support this development. Cannot understand why it isn't already set up in this way. Frequency - 2-3 times a week

Dear Miriam,
It is difficult to predict how frequently the scenarios I describe are likely to occur.
We would at least like to run the job at the beginning of each academic term, which would be three times per year.Ben

Hi Ben,
Assuming scheduling was enabled, what frequency would you run this in?
Daily, weekly, monthly or maybe yearly?
Meaning how often do these problems you describe happen? -

Dear Miriam,
The purpose of this job would be to retrospectively auto-locate citations if a bibliographic record is imported at a later date after the citation is created.
For example, a citation is created for a book which has not yet been published. At a later date the book is published and purchased for the Library, and a bibliographic record is imported. At this point the process and enrich citation job is necessary in order to locate the citation to the record.
Alternatively, a book might be out of print at the time the citation is created and may only be purchased at a later date when it appears on the market. There are also circumstances where we may not initially purchase a book (e.g. if it is only designated as 'optional' reading when added to a list), but purchase it at a later date (e.g. it's added to a different list, this time as 'core' reading).
I hope this helps.

Hi all,
Can you please explain why this is needed?
From what we understand any citation added is auto located.
Therefore we do not understand why this needs to be scheduled.
What is the flow that causes citations to exist in lists but not located? -

Hi, Is there a date yet planned for this idea? It would be very useful for our reading list team to be able to schedule this job.

Amin
