What happens when I freeze a hold? When you freeze a hold, you keep your place in the queue, but your hold will not be filled while it is frozen. If you anticipate a situation where you will temporarily be unable to pick up your hold before it expires, you may wish to freeze your hold. When you are ready to pick up your hold, you may reactivate your hold, and you will have preserved your place in the queue. Not every hold can be frozen. A hold cannot be frozen if the system expects to be able to fill the hold very soon. For example, holds that are already in transit to you or that can be filled by a currently available item cannot be frozen. Also, holds older than 255 days can not be frozen. If a hold cannot be frozen, there will be no box to check in the "Frozen" column where your holds are displayed. In the example below, only the first hold can be frozen. A hold is frozen until you unfreeze it, or the hold reaches the expiration date (be default, one year after the hold is placed) and is automatically cancelled. To freeze a request, check the box next to the hold to be frozen, and click the Update List button. The frozen hold is now highlighted. In the example below, the first hold is frozen. How do I reactivate or unfreeze a hold? To reactivate the request, uncheck the box in the Freeze column for the request and click the Update List button. The reactivated request will no longer be highlighted. |
