DID YOU KNOW?

Indigenous communities and family units continue to be impacted by a traumatic past, with youth facing limited access to opportunities in which to succeed and develop a sense of accomplishment.
With your help, ISF aims to instill a passion for achieving personal goals within Indigenous youth. As part of the Indigenous Spirit Award initiative, a child will be honoured for rising above adversity and achieving their own personal best.

A large number of Toronto’s most vulnerable children and families identify as Indigenous. There is also a dramatic overrepresentation of Indigenous children in foster care.
ISF will improve the quality of life for Indigenous children and families by supporting and delivering programs and services for Indigenous families, especially those impacted by the child welfare system.

Urban Indigenous populations experience homelessness at a disproportionate rate compared to those that are non-Indigenous. An estimated 25% of homeless youth in Toronto are Indigenous.
A donation to ISF helps to ensure a youth on the street will have a safe and nurturing environment where they can, through an Indigenous approach, actively work on transitioning to a better life.

Despite Reconciliation efforts, the current relationship between Indigenous communities and Canada’s philanthropic sector is undernourished.
Our goal is to make Reconciliation a reality. Through collaboration between Canada’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations, we will show how working together can benefit Indigenous people in need and the community at large.

The Indigenous Spirit Fund (ISF) is a new initiative established in 2018 by Native Child and Family Services of Toronto (NCFST), Canada’s largest Indigenous non-profit multi-service organization. Led by Indigenous people with expertise in child and family welfare, Indigenous cultures, and governance, the ISF supports local and regional initiatives that benefit Indigenous children and families.
