Guests and Alumni

Guests with specific academic affiliations are eligible for borrowing privileges. We have paid options for all other guests. Alumni pay a reduced annual fee.

Visit the Hatcher North Information Services Desk to get a card. You can also contact desk staff for more information.

If you are the spouse or other qualified adult of a current faculty or staff member, they can request borrowing privileges for you.

What's included

With all guest borrowing privileges, there is no limit on the number of items that can be checked out at one time, and items can be renewed.

Privileges do not include access to online resources or delivery services like interlibrary loan.

Alumni

If you completed a U-M degree program from any of the 3 campuses (Ann Arbor, Dearborn, or Flint), you can purchase guest borrowing privileges for a $125 annual fee.

Your alumni guest card can be used at University Library locations and Flint's Thompson Library.

The Mardigian Library requires a separate guest card unless you're a U-M Dearborn alumni.

Specific academic affiliations

Certain guests from academic institutions in the state of Michigan and the Big Ten Academic Alliance are eligible for guest borrowing privileges.

Proof of academic affiliation is required. See details of our agreements

All other guests

All other guests are eligible for guest-borrowing privileges for a $250 annual fee. Guest cards are for use by one individual and are not transferable.

Guests who do not have borrowing privileges are welcome to use items onsite. Get items off the shelves or complete our materials request form for visitors when items are not available for immediate access.
