The Carleton University Research Data Centre (CU-RDC) provides secure access to confidential Statistics Canada microdata and number of administrative databanks. It is located in room ML121, on the first floor of the MacOdrum Library.

CU-RDC workstations are booked through the Skedda booking system. Instructions on using the Skedda system can be found here:

Thu, Jan 18 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST. Webinar: The potential of linked Census-administrative data for socioeconomic research featuring Feng Hou (Statistics Canada) and Winnie Chan (Statistics Canada).

In this webinar, Feng Hou and Winnie Chan will discuss how Census and linked Census-administrative data can be used to trace the life trajectories of diverse population groups, model the causes and consequences of long-term social changes, monitor intergenerational mobility, depict changes in the urban landscape, and investigate multi-level contextual factors influencing individual-level outcomes. They describe Statistics Canada's census products: multi-year census files, longitudinally linked census files, and census-administrative data linkages, then delve into potential approaches using integrated census data files for socioeconomic research. Welcome Jessica Lynch, Carleton University Data Librarian. Jessica Lynch joined Carleton University in December. She was previously Research Librarian at the Department of Finance, and brings with her a wealth of experience in research services and data analysis. Jessica is replacing Jane Fry, who will be taking a sabbatical in 2024.

Welcome Nicolas Quintero, CU-RDC Statistical Analyst. Nicolas Quintero joined the CU-RDC as Statistical Analyst on November 1, 2023. Nicolas replaces Xuefeng Hu, who has moved to a new position at Statistics Canada, where he will be doing more hands on data development and analysis. Nicolas brings with him a wealth of experience, first as a Statistical Assistant at the COOL RDC, and then as an Analyst with the Federal Research Data Centre. Nicolas will at the CU-RDC Monday through to Wednesday. Statistical assistants Yani Zhang and Tomoko Mccaughey will staff the CU-RDC on Thursdays and Fridays.

CU-RDC Open House: Thursday November 16, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., MacOdrum Library, Room ML 252A/B. Students, faculty and staff are invited to drop in for coffee and refreshments, to connect with other researchers, learn more about the Carleton University Research Data Centre, and tour the CU-RDC. CU-RDC and library representatives will be available to answer your questions. Stop by for a quick coffee and chat, or stay as long as you like.

COVID Policies

In keeping with the updated occupational health guidance from Health Canada, medical masks must be worn in the CU-RDC if a physical distance of two meters cannot be maintained. N95 masks are available at the CU-RDC for any researchers who need one.
