Librarians provide a wide variety of classes based on the needs of IU School of Medicine students, faculty and staff. A library liaison can work with faculty members to develop a class tailored to a specific specialty, curriculum or research assignment.

Circulation Services

Circulation staff are available at the front desk on the first floor of the Ruth Lilly Medical Library in Indianapolis. This team answers the general phone number at 317-274-7182 and provides support to library visitors Monday through Friday 8 am until 5 pm as well as evenings and weekends during library hours. Circulation Desk Services include assistance with photocopiers, scanners and pay for print equipment; materials check-in and check-out; assistance with holds and renewals; document delivery; journal and book lookups; and reference inquiries.

Document Delivery

For users looking for full text of an article or book chapter, the Content Management and Delivery team specializes in obtaining articles, book chapters and other print materials (including print books) that fall outside of the Library’s collections or subscriptions for IU School of Medicine faculty, staff and students.

Liaison Program

A librarian is assigned to each House and College, and a liaison librarian is assigned to each IU School of Medicine department, institute, center and unit. Librarians are also actively involved in all phases of the MD curriculum and work with residents and fellows training as part of the school’s graduate medical education program.

Library users can access a Medical Librarian for assistance with questions about the library’s resources or services; literature searches or other research for grant proposals, publications, presentations, research or educational program development; author searching, citation tracking and altmetrics; NIH Public Access issues, NIH biosketches; basics of data curation, data preservation and data sharing; and help using Endnote.

Research Guides
