Variation of Regional Imports
Between January and December 2020, the imported value of car batteries
in Central America fell 6%, from $224 million to $211 million.
For last year, Honduras and El Salvador were the markets in the region that increased their imports
, with year-on-year increases of 10% and 8%, respectively.
Nicaragua, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama reduced their purchases by 1%, 3%, 12% and 30%, in that order.Imports by Country
In 2020, the main buyer was Guatemala, with $55 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $40 million, Honduras, with $36 million, El Salvador with $30 million, Panama with $27 million and Nicaragua with $22 million.Origin of Imports
Last year, 41% of the value of imports in the region came from Mexico, 16% from the USA, 15% from China, 13% from South Korea
, 5% from Colombia and 1% specifically from Hong Kong.
The U.S. is the market of origin of imports that has decreased the most by 2020; of the last few years, since in 2012 it represented 26% of Central America
's total purchases, and in 2020 that proportion fell by 10%.
