Decrease in Economic Activity in Costa Rica

The value of production fell in March and April, the first decline in the index's level from May and June 2012.

The Monthly Index of Economic Activity (MIEA) shows that the value of production fell in March and April, which is the first decline in the index's level from May and June 2012.

In interannual terms, the IMAE expanded by 3.08%, thus denoting an economy which is losing traction.

In terms of sectors, both manufacturing as well as agriculture recorded monthly declines, and both sectors recorded modest interannual data , of 3.80% and 0.35%, respectively.

The services industry targetting companies shows an annual growth of 5.57% after remaining well above 10% from January 2006 to March last year, a trimester which saw the start of growth in credit interest rates and less and less production.
