Footwear: Purchases Increase from Vietnam and Mexico

Between January and June 2018, the region imported footwear and related parts for $313 million, and purchases to Vietnam and Mexico increased 34% and 3%, respectively.

Imports by country
During the first half of 2018, the main buyer of footwear and related parts in Central America was Panama, with $93 million, followed by Guatemala, with $70 million, Costa Rica, with $54 million, El Salvador, with $42 million, Honduras, with $33 million and Nicaragua, with $21 million.

Variation in regional imports
Between the first six months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value imported into the region fell 2%, from $320 million to $313 million.

For the periods in question, imports from Vietnam and Mexico increased 34% and 3%, respectively, while purchases in the Asian country increased from $11.6 million to $15.5 million, and from the North American country from $13.3 million to $13.7 million.

Origin of imports
From January to June 2018, 30% of the value imported into the region was from China, 7% from the US, 5% from Vietnam and 4% from Mexico.
