How Many Vehicles Are in Central America?

In the first quarter of the year, 43% of the vehicles circulating in the countries of the region were automobiles, 17% corresponded to light load units and 7% to heavy load vehicles.
Data from the report "Vehicular Fleet in Central America", from the Trade Intelligence Unit of CentralAmericaData, detail different characteristics of the vehicles circulating in the streets of Central American countries.

Data by brand at regional level
According to Central American vehicle fleet records, by the first quarter of 2019 19% of the units circulating were Toyota brand, 8% Honda, 7% Nissan, 6% Hyundai, 6% Suzuki and 4% Mitsubishi.

By country
Of the total number of vehicles circulating in the region at the beginning of this last year, 37% of the units were in Guatemala, 18% in Costa Rica, 15% in Honduras, 12% in Panama, 11% in El Salvador and 7% in Nicaragua.

Regional by type
In the first quarter, 43% of vehicles circulating in the region were automobile type, 29% motorcycles, 17% light load units, 7% heavy load and 3% were buses.

The proportion of light-duty vehicles in the total fleet has grown significantly in recent years, with 13% at the end of 2017 and 17% at the end of the first quarter of 2019.
