An extraordinary migratory regularization process, called " Panamá, Crisol de Razas” (Panama, the Melting Pot) will be reactivated from 3 to October 7, 2011.
The country has large numbers of foreigners with irregular migratory status, and this will be the seventh time that this process has been activated The process aims to grant residence permits to foreigners who have been in the country for a year or longer, for which they must show entry stamps from when they came to the country.

In relation to previous times when this process of regularization has been carried out, a statement from the National Migration Service states that its director Maria Cristina Gonzalez, said it was a new process and thanks to the cooperation of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, and the cooperation of state security sectors, the event has fulfilled the expectations, and so far no situations that might tarnish the process have been recorded. "We are very pleased with the extraordinary migratory regularization process, we are now legal in Panama after having applied two years ago for permanent residency in the country that opened its doors to us", said Marianela Iglesias, a Dominican who has resided illegally in the country for over twenty years, after receiving her residency.

Hundreds of citizens from different countries expressed their satisfaction at the government initiative, due to the fact that they were able to receive their residency within hours. Maria Cristina Gonzalez reiterated that the country has large numbers of foreigners with irregular migratory status and the extraordinary regularization only applies to the immigrants living in the metropolitan area and San Miguelito district who have been residing illegally for more than two years.
