From January to June 2021, the main importing country in Central America was Nicaragua with $9.7 million, followed by Panama with $6 million, Costa Rica with $4.9 million, Guatemala with $2.9 million, Honduras with $2.8 million and El Salvador with $2.6 million.Variation in Imports
For the second quarter of 2021, purchases from Guatemala, Costa Rica and El Salvador increased by 69.8%, 53.1% and 45.2% respectively, while they decreased for Nicaragua, Panama and Honduras by 5.6%, 12.2% and 32.4% in their order.Origin of Imports
In the first six months of 2021, 28.43% of the value imported from Central America
came from the USA, 24.01% from China, 9.97% from Hong Kong, 7.38% from Estonia, 6.83% from Mexico and 3.76% from Panama.
For the period in question over the last eight years, Estonia has been the market of origin of imports that has grown the most, since in 2012 it represented 0.06% of total purchases and in 2021 that proportion rose to 7.38%.Regional Business Rising
Between January and June 2020 and the same period in 2021, the imported value of communication radios in the region grew 12.42%, increasing from $28.9 million to $32.5 million.
