From January to June 2021, the main importer of bus and truck tires
in Central America was Guatemala with $32.3 million, followed by Costa Rica with $20.4 million, followed by Honduras with $16.2 million, Nicaragua with $12.5 million, El Salvador with $8.2 million and Panama with $5 million.Increase in Regional Imports
Between the first six months of 2020 and the same period of 2021, the value of imports in the region increased by 27.74%, from $106.9 million to $136.6 million.
For the periods in question, purchases from China also recorded an increase, in this case by 35%, from $75.6 million to $102.4 million.Chinese Companies, Main Suppliers
As of June 2021, 75.02% of the value imported from Central America
came from China, 3.31% from Japan, 3.22% for Thailand and Costa Rica and 2.23% for Mexico.
China is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most for the period in question over the last ten years, since in 2012 it represented 40.95% of regional purchases and in 2021 that proportion rose to 75.02%.
