In the first nine months of 2020 the main importer of water heaters in Central America was Costa Rica with $4.7 million, followed by Guatemala, with $4.4 million, Panama, with $1.2 million, El Salvador with $900 thousand, Honduras with $700 thousand and Nicaragua with $500 thousand.
From January to September 2020, Nicaraguan imports
increased 23% in year on year terms and Costa Rican imports increased 2%.
Purchases by Salvadoran companies decreased by 13%, Guatemalan ones by 14%, Honduran ones by 46% and Panamanian ones by 49%.Variation in Regional Imports
Between January-September 2019 and the same period in 2020, imports declined from $15 million to $12 million.
Unlike purchases overall, for the periods in question imports from Germany increased 2% and purchases from China decreased 21%.More Brazilian Water Heaters in Central America
From January to September last year, 32% of the value imported from Central America came from Brazil, 28% from the USA, 18% from China, 6% from Germany, 4% from Mexico and 2% from Thailand.
For the period in question in recent years, China is one of the markets of origin of purchases that has increased its presence in Central America
, rising from 12% in 2012 to 18% in 2020.Note:
