Hello,

I saw you are participant of the WikiProject Zika Corpus and I was wondering if you would be interested in helping to create a Wikidata WikiProject COVID-19.

The goals would be initially (of course, they can be changed):

create a data model for instances of disease outbreak (Q3241045).

monitor the quality of the pages about national outbreaks listed in 2019–20 COVID-19 outbreak by country and territory (Q83741704).

curate the wikidata items relevant for describing the outbreaks and the virus itself.

curate and improve the information on Wikidata about scientific articles regarding the coronavirus (similar to the Wikidata:WikiProject_Zika_Corpus).

think and develop ways to process these items to improve access to information (for example, via automated articles in languages that currently do not have pages about country-specific outbreaks).

Would you like to participate in this effort?

I am trying to gather the Wikidata editors actively involved in the topic.I believe that if we act together, we can have a shot at aiding the global effort in containing the pandemic.

Perché 'American' è meglio che 'from United States'?

Hello! I am following a convention used in the English language Wikipedia for describing people by their profession and their citizenship in the lead paragraph.

This is also more common on Wikidata (because descriptions are often borrowed from the corresponding language edition) than the alternative "from [country name]". Does that make sense?

I didn't change the description in Dutch because I didn't know if there were particular conventions, but it looks like "Amerikaans [profession]" is also quite common in lead paragraphs in Dutch Wikipedia: see for example articles in this category https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categorie:Amerikaans_bioloog

From [the] (nl: uit [de]) <country name> is practically always more specific especially if you speak about countries like US[A], because America[n] (nl: Amerika[ans]) may refer to the entire continent. Many times Americans believe they are the most important so they pretend "everybody" knows American can not mean Argentinian, Brazilian, Canadian, Mexican etc. America First ?

Like saying Dutch writer can mean a writer who writes in Dutch (from Belgium, Dutch Caribbean islands, Netherlands or Suriname). Clearer and more consistent would be in my opinion to call e.g. Theadora Christina Doelwijt writer from Suriname { before my change description was not even (politically) correct since Kingdom of the Netherlands does not recognize jus soli }

Other example: Afrikaans is a language - related to Dutch (linguists call it "daughter language") - spoken in South Africa and Namibia while the adjective in Dutch does not always refer to just these countries; Algerians, Egyptians, Moroccans, Nigerians etc. are Afrikanen (en: Africans) as well. Avoid confusion: be as specific as possible. The first letter of the acronym SMART
