Adding from World Athletics athlete IDs

7
Gymnicus (talkcontribs)

Hello! Earlier you added World Athletics athlete IDs to various data objects using Mix'n'match and including two data objects that I had created. One of the data objects is Torben Junker (Q107447126). However, this data object already contained a World Athletics athlete ID (P1146), and in my opinion the correct one. You have added another (maybe an old) World Athletics athlete ID for this, which can be referred to as a forwarding ID. Do you find adding such World Athletics athlete IDs really useful?

Edgars2007 (talkcontribs)

hi! that kind of was "part of the plan". and yes, the fix is on the way.

Gymnicus (talkcontribs)

And what is the fix?

Edgars2007 (talkcontribs)

for those items which now has multiple IDs, remove IDs which are redirected to other ID, that item has.

Gymnicus (talkcontribs)

Okay, but why are you adding these ID's first? Only to then delete them again?

Edgars2007 (talkcontribs)
  • that simplified m'n'm import process.
  • those are not incorrect IDs, but simply different type - at least World Athletics calls them in their API as "id" and "competitorId_WA". they look messy, though. when i was preparing data, some of "final" URLs, that i checked, were id's and som were competitorId_WA.
  • this also can be a double check process - if item has multiple IDs, which corresponds to different WD items, then it signals that something is wrong.
Edgars2007 (talkcontribs)

and, of course, many WD items didn't had any ID

Hi! Thanks for importing https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/?#/catalog/4426. However, the ID should include not only the final number, but also the textual part, as presented in the examples of LMIC musician ID (P9525). I have removed IDs with wrong format and I have disconnected the catalog from the property. You can import a new catalog and I will delete this. Thank you again and good night!

Can you delete Q105952953 please!

Dear Edgars2007: Can you delete 우당탕탕 아이쿠 (Q105952953) please just because it's a duplicate of Oops I-Kooo (Q17267250) because it's a mistake! Can you do it, now!

Import from wikipedia - Cricinfo IDs

2
The-Pope (talkcontribs)

Hi there, There are currently over 2200 articles on the English Wikipedia that use the Cricinfo template, that don't have a corresponding value in the Wikidata property ESPNcricinfo.com player ID (Property:P2697). They are listed in w:Category:Cricinfo_maintenance in the "M" section. Your bot is listed on the P2697 discussion page as being able to import values from Wikipedia. Could you please conduct a run? I keep an eye on the constraint violations page, so once it's done, I'll look for any errors/duplicates etc. Thanks.

The-Pope (talkcontribs)

It appears that User:Thierry Caro has done most of them, only 365 remain in the maintenance category. Thanks Thierry!

The Elo ratings from December, January and February are missing.

Edgars2007 (talkcontribs)

I will definetely need to automate it so this doesn't happen. Currently setting up the bot (data) is pretty manual process.

ערן (talkcontribs)
  • Is it still mainly manual process? Do you own tool in tools lab? or have github repository? If so it would be nice to mention it in yours bot user page and other people (including me) would like to help to improve it  :-)
  • Can we make the latest update with high ranking and other claims with normal rank? (this is how it is normally done in other time dependent properties such as Q60#P1082)

Thanks!

Steak (talkcontribs)

No, preferred ranks are not used for Elo ratings. The most recent value can be queried by looking for the respective point in time.

Uzņēmumu reģistra mājaslapā viss balstās uz reģistrācijas numura. Šaubos, ka viņi nākotnē no tā atteiktos savās lapās. Varbūt tos id varētu gāzt/sākt pievienot šeit?

piemērs: https://info.ur.gov.lv/#/legal-entity/40008291442

Tavas domas?

Edgars2007 (talkcontribs)

Sveiks! Gan jau būtu OK. Esi skatījies, vai Vikidatos ir citu valstu atbilstošie ID? Nesaku, ka tad netaisam ID, ja citām valstīm nav gan.

Edgars2007 (talkcontribs)

Gūt. Domāju, ka vari pats droši likt to " (Latvia)" klāt jau tagad.

I would first of all suggest to add them as Aliases ... there is already a property for a person's name in a certain language, can't that be used?

Jura1 (talkcontribs)

There is name (P2561) and transliteration (P2440), but the general tendency for the later is to do specific properties: Property:P2440#P1659.

I don't think name (P2561) is used on items for given names/family names.

Alias can work, I'd avoid the use in labels, e.g.

shouldn't show the same label in lv. If we only use it as alias, there is no way to retrieve it in a systematic way.

Earlier discussion at Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Names#Latvian_and_proper_nouns.

Edoderoo (talkcontribs)

The aliases are first of all meant to drive the search results. I would not care for a specific property, if it is going to be used on a good share of the items. If someone has a script to fill them up, and the new property serves a good cause: just do it.

Jura1 (talkcontribs)

Let's see how the proposal goes. I think it would help if someone knowledgeable about Latvian would comment there.

Jura1 (talkcontribs)

Somehow I was convinced that I was talking to Edgars2007 ;)

Edoderoo (talkcontribs)

I know the feeling ... I got here because of the <bell> in the lint in the top of the screen, and yesterday I thought at first I was on my own talkpage. Sorry Edgars2007, we didn't want to spoil all the fun for you ;-)

Jura1 (talkcontribs)

☺ ☺ ☺

.. obviously, your thoughtful input is still welcome, here and there.

Papuass (talkcontribs)

Let's continue discussion un the property proposal page. From my perspective Q2660560 and Q5337600 could have the same Latvian label if there is a description which includes original spelling.

Unfortunately the BBLD IDs are not stable. Some IDs consist of names, others of name+date, VIAF or GND. They are changing regularly. Therefore I have requested the deletion of this property to put an end to this chaos: WD:PFD#Property:P2580. Cheers
