DAZN adds Davis Cup rights in Brazil

DAZN, the OTT subscription streaming service, has acquired rights in Brazil to the Davis Cup tennis tournament.

DAZN will provide coverage of the men’s team tournament until 2021 as part of a deal that begins next week with this year’s Finals in Madrid.

Rights to last year’s Davis Cup final (between France and Croatia) were held in Brazil by Globosat and BandSports.

DAZN will also release a documentary series focusing on Brazilian doubles star Bruno Soares. The series will debut on Sunday and provide a behind-the-scenes look at Soares’ life.

DAZN, which launched in Brazil in May, also holds rights in the country to Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) events. DAZN already holds rights to the Davis Cup in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The finals of this year’s Davis Cup will take place at Madrid’s La Caja Magica venue from November 18-24 following a revamp of the tournament under a masterplan devised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and commercial partner Kosmos. The finals have been restructured as a week-long, 18-team event.

Earlier this month, international sports broadcaster Eurosport agreed a two-year deal with the ITF for rights to the Davis Cup in the UK, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland. The deal covers the 2019 and 2020 finals of the tournament.
