Bio

Cassie Karlsson, M.D. is the Training Director of the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship and the combined Pediatrics-Psychiatry-Child and Adolescent psychiatry (Triple Board) Residency Programs, and Associate Training director of the Adult Psychiatry Residency Program.  She graduated from medical school at the University of Colorado, received her general psychiatry residency training from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and completed her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Colorado.  Since joining the faculty at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2013, much of her career has been dedicated to graduate medical education.  She enjoys working with residents and fellows throughout their training career.  Her areas of interest in resident education include teaching through a lifelong developmental model, child and family psychotherapy, and developing specialized training to prepare residents and fellows to care for children and adults with developmental disorders and neuropsychiatric illness. Her clinical and research focus is in autism, developmental disorders, and other neuropsychiatric conditions throughout the lifespan.  She is the Founder and Director of the Down Syndrome Psychiatric Specialty Clinic at the IU Neurosciences Center, serving both children and adults, with a specific focus on regression and catatonia in Down Syndrome.  She is involved in multiple national organizations, including serving on a national committee in the American Neuropsychiatric Association.
