Global block/unblock for 82.238.150.247

Status:    Done

Hi! This static IP tries to add referral links to three different wikis for a week now. He changes dropbox.com to a shortned URL. When people use this URL (and this is quite likely since Dropbox is a popular service and so our articles are), the person behind this IP will get extra space on this online storage service without people knowing (and he will see their email adresses when they registered). I consider this highly abusive behaviour. We can’t block 21 articles on Dropbox and blocking him on a single project is useless (and will most likely only draw attention from the abusive behaviour in other language versions). Nice weekend, --Polarlys 11:16, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Global unblock for Alexandermcnabb

Status:    Done

I'm getting blocked, the message doesn't give any IP information. I'm signed in as a user, but still getting blocked on a wide range of IP addreses. I'm based in the UAE, which sits behind a proxy, but you surely cannot simply shut out a whole country! "Editing from your IP address or IP address range has been disabled on all wikis by Shizhao (meta.wikimedia.org). The reason given was "Open proxy". The block expires on 20 October 2011 at 08:08!!!! Alexandermcnabb 12:30, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

The IP address is 195.229.242.59. If you are going to edit English Wikipedia, I can give you IP block exemption there. Ruslik 13:12, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
I've also just independantly run into this issue (ips .237.38, .39 etc also blocked). Can the relevant blocks just not be made to block anonymous edits only? (as per "Global blocks should, wherever practicable and sensible, be placed with the anonymous only flag on.". Taking out an entire country, or at least one of the two ISPs here seems a bit extreme. 195.229.237.42 18:01, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I modified the block to anonymous only. Ruslik 19:53, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Dutch user who wildy accuses editors / admins / coaches of being sockpuppets, harrasses them and follows them on other Wikipedia's. See for example here and here. Some more examples cross-wiki: [2], [3], [4] (more links can be given by request btw). And so on. It's enough. This is going on for several years. He has been blocked for this behaviour on most major Wikipedia versions see sultool of both accounts (accounts were created in 2007 and were proven to be sockpuppets). Thanks in advance. Kind regards, --Trijnstel 22:04, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

  Done Matanya 10:21, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
"Follows them on other wikipedias" is a rather strange accusation for a Dutch admin whose only contributions on nds-nl.wiki are on my talkpage.
es:Usuario Discusión:Savh#Punt and nds-nl:Overleg gebruker:Erik Warmelink are about the same case: Savh incorrectly reverted an edit and only apologized to the user whose edit was reverted after some prodding. Note how Trijnstel tag teamed with Savh. After Savh asked me not to contact him/her on es.wiki again, Trijnstel baited me there (though those could very well be overlapping edits).
About nl:Overleg:Noordrijn-Westfalen: see nl:Overleg gebruiker:Paris8798217227: all those accounts (and nl:user:landen) are sockpuppets of user:Michiel1972 who made that nice misspelling which is used to threaten me with hanging my father.
About nds-nl:Overleg gebruker:Silver Spoon#Weerummedreien: Silver_Spoon incorrectly reverted and only apologized after very extensive prodding. Note how Mathonius tag teamed with Silver_Spoon. --129.125.102.126 13:59, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Note nds-nl:Speciaal:Biedragen/Mathonius (mostly asking for a block for yours truly) and nds-nl:Speciaal:Biedragen/Silver Spoon. Though Silver_Spoons suddenly renewed interest in nds-nl.wiki is rather constructive. --129.125.102.126 22:00, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
About commons:User talk:Erik Warmelink/Archive#Sockpuppet: well, I answered there.
My accounts are not abusive sockpuppets, I am Erik Warmelink, ErikWarmelink is used on en: and nl:, Erik Warmelink on all other wikipedias (sort sulutil:ErikWarmelink on editcount to verify). I am rather sure user:Trijnstel isn't named like that in real life (it's Dutch for "train wagon"). --129.125.102.126 13:59, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Do note nl:Speciaal:Bijdragen/Erik_Warmelink and en:Speciaal:Bijdragen/Erik_Warmelink. Sulutil:hotbot is also my account (hardly used, but would be a nice name for a bot; :en:user:hotbot isn't me, I think). --129.125.102.126 15:08, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Global lock/unlock for Jack Merridew

Status:    Done

Hi. This will entail some talk and I'm fine with that. No hurry. I'm sul:User:Barong and I'm the same person who operated the above accounts. I'm also sul:User:Rangda. A peek at: w:wp:A/R/Cl and w:User talk:Jack Merridew#unblock ought to clarify that. Agreeing that I'm me would be the first step.

My main Jack Merridew account was compromised, by me, by posting the password on en:wp. Risker had a Steward lock it; I believe it was Shanel. The others were locked at my request on this page in late March.

So, I would like to talk about getting these all back under my control. The unlock is obviously easy once all is clear that it's appropriate. I also blanked the email and scrambled the passwords, so I will need someone (a developer?) to reset the emails. The account, Barong, is using the same email account that the others used and that many have communicated with me on. I have some other old accounts that are not SUL that I'll be seeking to regain control of, too, but I understand that that's not a Steward's job. But you could still point me in the right direction ;) A few of these are on Commons, but most are on en:wp, where there's a serious mess in progress. In no way am I seeking to play meta off against the en:ac, but their authority does not reach here, so I am asking the meta and Steward level of WMF to do whatever is within this level's remit.

I am not going to continue editing much with any of the Merridew accounts; I'd just maintain user pages, and make the odd comment as my old-self. The Gold Hat account, I would use a bit more. All to be reasonably disclosed, of course. Sorry for the mess; I point the finger squarely at teh toxic-wiki.

For your convenience:

If you blanked emails and scrambled passwords, I am afraid, nothing can be done. Ruslik 18:14, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
Seems I was quite thorough. I know there are precedents for developers returning accounts by simply setting a known email account into the database so that users can then use the password reset feature. This is not a Steward responsibility, though, is it? The locks are, though. The main Jack account was locked because I compromised the password, but the others were per my request, so I would still like the unlocks performed. What would it take to justify the unlocking of the compromised account? I did re-scramble the password after posting it on en:wp; those diffs are fully oversighted, so no one should be able to ever get the password I disclosed (which was w:GUID, as was the final password). It is possible that Kww or Risker (or a few editors or trolls that happened to see it live) saved the disclosed password and could verify that it does not work any longer).
Can you (or anyone) comment on precedent for dev intervention to return accounts? I have not asked anyone, yet, but believe I can find a dev to perform this, assuming that it is deemed appropriate to do so. I have a long and bumpy history on en:wp and this is really all about recovering my history, of owning my past accounts. It is not about ever doing much with them. The en:ac-thread may result in finally lifting all their restrictions. It may also result in my departure, so nothing much should actually happen until that thread finds its way to an end.
Terima kasih, Barong 04:42, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
The appropriate venue for this request is bugzilla. If you can find a developer who agrees to reset the passwords, I will unlock these accounts. Ruslik 13:13, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Works for me, although I'll prolly ask a dev directly. I can still log into bugzilla as Jack ;) It's late for me (Bali), so tomorrow. Thank you, Barong 14:58, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

w:en:User:Rangda was blocked by Risker per this thread, specifically offering this in the summary. That is an w:en-local account created in 2008 and it is unattached to the sul:account that I had here. The w:en:account was never me and amounts to an innocent party. It is quite true that I intended to seek a usurpation of it, but I didn't. I'm not specifically asking, here, that it be unblocked as it is an w:en:issue. I'd just like this in whatever archive. 125.162.150.88 (Barong/Jack) 06:36, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
