request unblock please. I blanked two pages not out of vandalism, but because they were hoaxes. if you'd seen the edit summaries, you'd see that my blanking was in good faith; i didn't know how to say "hoax" in the corresponding language, nor what the deletion templates were --24.236.235.74 22:48, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Your listing is for the gopher frog, which does exist. It seems the real info and hoax info got conflated at some point. But see here for further explanation. Could you please unblock me? 24.236.235.74 23:52, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
I would unblock if I could. You'll have to wait until a steward shows up. By the way, thank you for helping to rid Wikipedia of hoaxes. I'll look into this a bit. πr2 (tc) 23:55, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
I have another question. If the "Lithobates capito" species does exist (and a synonym is "Rana capito"), then what is wrong with having an article about it on the French Wikipedia? Which part of that article is a hoax? The image? (same for an.wikipedia.org). I would believe you, but I just want to make sure I understand the situation. πr2 (tc) 00:04, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Since it was linked from the hoax article on en.wikipedia, I assumed that the french version was a hoax too despite not knowing a word of French. I ask that any steward reading this understand that I was editing in good faith. 24.236.235.74 00:06, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, the image File:Nagooche-frogfemale12.jpg was originally uploaded in 2009. It does look quite different from File:Rana capito.jpg in terms of color, but I'm not an expert so I cannot tell for sure whether or not it is legitimate. The file's name, including "Nagooche-frog", seems like it would be a hoax, but is that proof? "Nacoochee" refers to an area/region/locality of the US state of Georgia, so maybe it's just a local name for the frog? I'm already getting confused. I assume you're right, but I don't know what was on the original English Wikipedia version, which would help in order to check the others... πr2 (tc) 00:14, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
I dunno the history. Someone on en.wikipedia confessed to making the hoax, and I get nothing for "Nagoochee Frog" on Google outside wikipedia mirrors. 24.236.235.74 00:21, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Noticed something: your IP was globally blocked for spamming, not for removing content. Did you do anything that could have been misconstrued as spam or advertising [i.e., adding links]? πr2 (tc) 00:19, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
  • No. All I did was blank those two pages as hoaxes, and my edit summaries had links to the en.wp article. Most likely they saw the en.wikipedia links in my edit summaries and misconstrued them as spam. 24.236.235.74 00:21, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Done Hi. I just assumed good faith and unblocked you. However, next time please don't remove content from pages, but better put the template {{delete}} at the top of it and put a summary like "Requesting deletion of this article". Adding some words on the talk page explaining why you would want this page to be deleted would also be helpful. Regards, -- Quentinv57 (talk) 01:48, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Global unlock for Farjad0322

Status:    Not done

Hi there... I am a 3-years old contributor to wikipedia (I am FudgeFury and I create articles about my country Pakistan and occasionally of K-Pop, which I enjoy very much... Yesterday, I decided to upload a picture on wikiimedia commons related to one of the articles I was creating, so I decided to log in, it automatically logged me into Global account or something... And boom, you guys blocked me... But let me explain, and try to understand me... I live in a country, where due to issues of religion, sites like YouTube, Facebook and Wikipedia occasionally get banned for a long periods of time... In order to contribute here (actually not here, only on Wikipedia, because all other wiki sites are just horrible), I have no other choice but to use an open proxy server like HotSpot shield... Someone else might use the same open IP address as me, I do understand the risks of it... But you can CLEARLY see the contributions I have done on wikipedia... I just removed a copyright violation yesterday... I do also watch over some articles and remove acts of vandalism... Maybe logging into an global account yesterday was a mistake, because I was an auto-reviewed user and was exempted from IP blocking... I earned that trust in that wikipedia community... You can't just so easily take it away from me and block me until 2017... I am so seriously disappointed right now... 3 years of service and this... What is this wikimedia anyway, I only care for wikipedia... Try to understand, my country doesn't leave me a choice... Honestly, our ISPs here are complete crap... Return my rights of auto-reviewed and IP block exempt and I swear I will NEVER EVER return to this global account thing of wikimedia... Please, do it... Farjad0322 (talk) 06:36, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Thank you... I can edit again on wikipedia... But I will appreciate it if you guys return my auto-reviewer rights at least... I have created over 100 articles to gain that trust... Farjad0322 (talk) 06:49, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Template:Nao Neither of your two accounts are locked/blocked. It seems that the proxy IP rather than your account is globally blocked. Please put your request at Steward requests/Global permissions#Requests for global IP block exemption if you have to use open proxy to edit wikipedia. --Makecat 07:01, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Background: I joined Wikipedia at 2 June 2012 at the age of ten years old.first block occurs at 9 June 2012 for incivility.blocked again at 15 June but this block is more severe because sockpuppetry but unblock always declined for poor English (but i learned English at intermediate level, not beginner and not poor). Finally the block is indefinite due block evasion. For severe reasons,i moved to NIWA at September 2012.originally i was in Pokemon wiki but later at Super Mario Wiki. I'm moderate at Super Mario Wiki. Global lock for Kumioko

Status:    Not done

Please global lock my account. It is currently indefinately blocked on the English Wikipedia for Socking and block evasion. I want that extended globally as well. If this is how longterm editors are to be treated then lets go all the way with it. I do not want to do something to require a block on each site but I will if I need too. Call this a preventative measure and threatening of that justifies it but I'm tired of the years of disrespect I haev had to endure. I am frustrated with the culture and no longer want to be associated with this. Its a shame, I had hundreds of thousands of edits and wanted to continue but I can only take so many people telling me I can't be trusted so many times. Kumioko (talk) 22:00, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

(non-steward comment) Stewards have historically been against self-requested locks. There are some exceptions, but they may also want to give you a short period to see if you change your mind. πr2 (t • c) 22:03, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. I understand and expected that. I will do what is necessary to achieve a block if I must but that is a time consuming endeavor for myself and the community. There is no need to require me to be a vandal. This allows me to go and lick my wounds with a modicum of dignity and maybe, someday I will ask for that to be lifted. Kumioko (talk) 22:14, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
Just log out. Whatever your reasons may be, justified or not, I'm not going to fuel the fire for your dramatic exit, only for you to come back when it dies down. PeterSymonds (talk) 22:24, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
So it would be better to just do some vandalism and justify it? If that's what you prefer but I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. Kumioko (talk) 23:41, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
(non-steward comment) It doesn't make sense to say "there is no need to require [you] to be a vandal". You're responsible for your own behaviour, and it would be your own choice if you started vandalizing. Please be reasonable. What would really be preferred, is that you stop asking for attention, and just simply log out if you feel like leaving. Mathonius (talk) 23:49, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
Your right I am responsible but it seems that I am to be treated as a vandal I may as well become one! I fail to understand how asking for a block is asking for attention! A block means I cannot edit, it means I wouldn't be able to keep responding and keeping this discussion going. IT would have been done several reply's ago. The culture of ENWP is toxic and the community broken. Its driving off editors faster than it can recruit new ones and is systematically pushing out the most active contributors a few at a time. It won't be fixed unless it becomes a problem to those projects outside of EN so I come here to ask for my account to be blocked. Partially to bring attention to that toxic culture. I was an active contributor with hundreds of thousands of edits and years of experienced who got tired of being shit on. You can choose not to block me, but I will give you no option if I have too. Kumioko (talk) 00:30, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
The Wikimedia Foundation is way beyond just English Wikipedia, though can seen as the flagship. You are welcome to contribute to other projects in a positive and productive manner, there are another 700+ wikis. A global lock in this situation proves and achieves very little. We ask that if you are not going to edit that you simply walk away, it is the mature thing to do. If you wish to abandon the account, go in and change the email address to something non-functional, logout and then reset the password. Problem solved. Re lock —   Not donebillinghurst sDrewth 12:11, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Well until the foundation is willing to get off their butt and address the toxic culture in the "flagship" as you put it then I don't really have any desire to participate in any of the other projects. I started too, but a lot of the same players are rooted in other areas making a fresh start in another Wiki near impossible. Rather than allowing experienced editors to use their skills they just want to dwell on a block that happened over a year ago that was performed against me for the wrong reasons when there were other editors who actually violated the rules that were ignored. So, you are free to call me immature or whatever if you want but I want no part of this "comumnity" until something is done about the underlying problem. A lot of high level people know there is a problem including members of the WMF but no one is willing to do anything about it. Or they simply don't know what to do. Even Jimbo is cutting ties. So until they do, I would like my account to be locked. This will not only prevent my account from being used by me, but also prevent it from being usurped by someone else in another wiki that I haven't edited in and will draw some attention to the increasing problem of editor recruitment and retention. It also calls some attention to the fact that Experienced editors are leaving or being pushed out in droves. Some do come to other wiki's but many just leave and are gone. We need to start treating our editors with some respect, get rid of the influence pedelars and policy violators and return to a collaborative environment like it used to be. Not the current admin us and them mentality where Admins are gods and all the rest of the editors are just tolerated and allowed to do the grunt work as long as they don't ask questions and don't buck the system. The system is broken, clearly and needs to be fixed. If an editor like myself who has been around for years, has hundreds of thousands of edits across all areas and multiple wiki's can't be trusted then we should be asking ourselves why they can't. If they truly can't be trusted to edit a protected page, view deleted content to help with CCI, import things form one wiki to another without cutting and pasting or a wide array of other things, then what use are they? Which is exactly what I am asking for. I don't want to have to "get" myself blocked but I will. I would rather just ask for it. Kumioko (talk) 14:11, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Stewards have no specific authority at English Wikipedia which is a self-governing wiki within the collective of wikis. If you have concerns that you wish to express to the Wikimedia Foundation, then please go to them directly, their contact details are on the Wikimedia Foundation website. Stewards are the wrong avenue, we have little influence, and no authority in their affairs. Stewards are not the WMF. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:52, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Addendum. You have a SUL account, no one can usurp it. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:54, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Please do not insist, it is definitely out of lock's scope and, frankly, it won't reach any of the declared targets. --Vituzzu (talk) 14:20, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
The only target is me. I just want me account to be blocked globally with the same message of Socking and block evasion as my English Wikipedia account. Are you truly telling me that our system of government has no way to block an account globally, after showing a pattern of misconduct? Surely there is a way to block users who create trouble on multiple wiki's without each Wiki acting independantly. If there isn't then maybe there should be. We have a lot of smart people. Surely someone can write a script that can be used to lock an SUL account by setting a parameter across multiple wiki's. I know this can be done. Kumioko (talk) 15:55, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
This wont be done. You can remove the "not done" until you wont be blocked locally on meta, but it wont change the final result. --Vituzzu (talk) 21:04, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

┌───────────────────────────────────────────┘
Hello, Kumioko. Unfortunately, locking is really not appropriate in this case. If you feel it is a protective measure to prevent someone else from registering the account while you are not active on the Wikimedia projects, it is unnecessary, as SUL will prevent anyone from registering the name. If you want your account "locked" as a protest against what you believe is a toxic environment pervasive throughout all Wikimedia projects, exemplified by the flagship, that is not a valid reason to lock an account. May I suggest that if you wish to express your frustration, contempt, disgust, apathy, or whatever emotion is driving you to this decision, that you are better served by posting a message to that effect on every one of the user pages you control (which should be around 682 projects). Being your Wikimedia project philosophy, it is in scope for your user page (as long as other rules aren't broken, such as BLP, outing, etc.), and will serve to express your feelings much more clearly than a generic "lock" will, which is is almost invisible to regular users. Thank you. -- Avi (talk) 21:22, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

I have to say this is truly ridiculous. Someone levies a bad block on me and no one cares or bats an eyelash. I fight and fight for months to clear my name and no one wants to listen, says I am being dramatic, says I am untrustworthy until finally I persuade someone to let me come back. I ask for a global lock on my account to reflect my crimes of Socking and block evasion and I am being unreasonable!? It truly bewilders me how when I want to be a good contrinutor no one wants to listen or give me a chance but when I finally have enough of the abuse and want to lock my account all I get is the hand. Kumioko (talk) 21:30, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Kumioko, projects with robust dispute resolution methods must have local disputes handled on them. Meta is not an über-wiki; it is a place for collaboration between wikis, and where smaller wikis get support. Unfortunately, any issue you have with the English Wikipedia project must be handled with the English Wikipedia project. Perhaps an appeal to the WMF itself may help, but as demonstrated before (the Mbz case) it is pretty clear that Meta is not a place to turn with a problem with an existing remedy. If there was a situation where it can be shown that the entire dispute resolution process has been hijacked, which can happen on smaller projects, then appeal to the stewards is a possibility. For all its flaws, the ENglish Wikipedia project's dispute resolution system is NOT in that situation, and any further issues you have with them need to be handled with their ArbCom, Jimbo, or the foundation. Sorry. -- Avi (talk) 21:35, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
AVI, I don't need to be blocked on EN, I already am, what I am asking is that I be blocked globally with the same reasons as EN. That's it. Many of the sites are small and don't have dispute resolution as you put it. I'm not sure why this is such a difficult thing to do. It should be just a matter of a button push. Kumioko (talk) 01:38, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Not done. Global locks are used only as a last resort in response to crosswiki vandalism by a user account. They are only used at all because there is no global block feature for user accounts, and it is therefore the only way to effectively halt crosswiki vandalism by logged-in user accounts. The lock feature is very drastic and will not be used unless there is no other option. As a number of other stewards have said, they have not, are not, and will not be used at a user's request, given that there are many, many, many other ways to avoid editing wikipedia if one so desires, principally removing your email address from your preferences and scrambling your password. Doing this would be far more effective than a global lock, as there no way to undo this unless you ask a server admin to manually reset your password directly.
Please do not re-open this request again. No less than five stewards (including myself) have denied this request, and your insistence at drawing this out again and again leads me to believe that you are far more interested in gaining attention to yourself than you are at effectively preventing yourself from editing WMF projects. MetaWiki is designed to coordinate issues that affect more than one local project. It is not a place to carry on a grievance against a local project. If you wish to appeal your block on the English Wikipedia, you may do so using their standard procedure. Alternatively, you may appeal to the English Wikipedia Arbitration Committee by emailing arbcom-l@lists.wikimedia.org. Stewards are not judges or arbitrators. We do not have appellate jurisdiction over any project.
Finally, a word of warning. If you open this request again, you carry a strong risk of being blocked from editing MetaWiki, as your edits are becoming more and more difficult to accept as anything other than intentionally disruptive. J.delanoygabsadds 02:05, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
