Requests for global (un)block

Global unblock for 2001:1af8::/32 (SixXS)

Status:    Done

This IPv6 range belongs to the SixXS ISP, which provides fixed IP addresses and tunnels after registration, and hence does not qualify by the definition of open proxy. Individual hosts can be reported via the abuse page. Please remove the default block on the range and use individual /64 blocks where appropriate. - Combusterf (talk) 11:44, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

The /32 is allocated to a webhost, LeaseWeb, which typically has open proxies, and has been found to contain a few. I would suggest exempting the prefixes specified at [1], but a steward would then have to make 8 blocks in place of this single block for that.--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:00, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
To get this done, what would the 8 blocks be? --MF-W 12:39, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Editing from your IP address (129.78.233.210) has been blocked (disabled) on all Wikimedia wikis until 01:23, 27 June 2014 by Shizhao (meta.wikimedia.org) for the following reason: Open proxy. This is the first time I have edited a page on WIkipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.78.233.210 (talk) 01:59, 27 June 2013

MF-Warburg modified the global block on 129.78.233.210 (anonymous only, expires 01:23, 27 June 2014) with the following comment: University of Sydney IP, several good edits, but also 'Recently reported forum spam source'. changing to anon-only. --MF-W 23:30, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

As you can see from my experience above (see the section titled 'Global unblock for 166.78.181.17'), I don't think you're going to get much of a response here or by posting on Vituzzu's Talk page (he ignored my various questions). User Dome has indefinitely blocked my account on it.wikipedia on the wrong assumption that I performed a change on a specific page on behalf of someone else who's based in another country and who I don't know (I believe the term is sockpupet) I've tried to explain that I do not know that person and that, as that was my first and only contribution to wikipedia, that was just the consequence of some unfortunate timing, however the user dome (http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utente:Dome) is ignoring my plead, hence I am escalating the issue here hoping that you're able to either convince the user dome of my good faith or to unblock me on your behalf. Please note that the change I made was neglectable (Re-arranging an info box), although it looks like I made that change at the same time when that user I was accused to be the sockpupet of was fighting for the same change.

Thanks a lot

Laurence (Laugizzi)

There is no global block on this IP address. You are facing a local block that applies at a specific wiki only. Stewards are unable to assist in this matter, and you will need to explore the local rules for the wiki of interest and pursue the unblock through their processes. Closing as   Not done as there is nothing to be done at the global level. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:05, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

I am not sure for what you are asking, and there is a mess of IP addresses in play. 69.31.123.194 is from above, and not relevant; 50.18.216.174 is an Amazon IP address and it is possible that there may be a Kindle in play here to complicate matters. 74.93.15.33 is a comcast address and not blocked.

We have tried to identify and exclude IP addresses used by Kindles, and just block the problematic servers that spammers have been using within the Amazon clusters, though we can never guarantee that things will be completely static and some adjustment will not be necessary. Some clarification would be useful. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:10, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Well, the the fact is that Cmach7 went cross-wiki only with one account only in all the other wikimedia sites besides en.wikipedia.org. Cross-wiki abuse is when a user uses sockpuppets on multiple wikimedia sites only, and Cmach7 made edits with only one account in all the wikis besides en.wikipedia.org. 166.147.104.164 02:52, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

I am a jawp-user. User:I-pon edited articles with an advertising. But they are removed. Therefore, he wanted power in order not to be removed. It is hard for us to understand his actions. But I am understanding that his purpose quite different purpose of the wiki-project!--Ashtray (talk) 04:52, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

He act some wiki-projects(commons, wikinews, wikisource, wikipedia, meta, etc.). But he does not have any decent activity! He said "Japanese-language were determined to second official language in wiki-projects, and you should keep that determination." Aha, it is hard for me to understand his logic. No, you are locked until you can prove that you will be a productive editor. Even if you are unlocked, you are still blocked on the English Wikipedia. Spambots - I've blocked all of these on English Wikivoyage (voy:Special:Log/block) and am reporting them here as well as I was told that's the proper process (let me know if that's incorrect). -- Ryan • (talk) • 03:53, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Normally it's sufficient if you report those which spammed multiple wikis (as seen on Special:CentralAuth). --MF-W 07:45, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I know I said that they should be reported here, but in the last few weeks there have been so many spambots that I've just started blocking where I have +sysop and only requesting locks where I don't have that. --Rschen7754 08:44, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes, most spambots do not go crosswiki, so there is no real need for a lock... two sections below those did, but most accounts are only used once on one wiki. --MF-W 21:58, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

The fact that this user (my brother) edits from the same house as me is no reason to block him, let alone globally lock his account. The decision was recently made at Commons to unblock his account, but due to this unwarranted global lock, he can't even log in there. Please see OTRS ticket 2013070410010677. ~ DanielTom (talk) 14:36, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Copy of my statement at Wikisource:
The global lock of my brother's account is ... absurd, as his edits at Portuguese Wikipedia (where he created this article) and Commons, were perfectly fine... it should be up to each individual wiki to decide whether he should be blocked or not. [Commons recently decided that he should not remain blocked.] I think it obvious that there has certainly been no cross-wiki abuse that warrants such a global lock.
For the record. ~ DanielTom (talk) 15:07, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Done Note that the local blocks remain in place as nothing can be done about them from here (and the user is also still blocked on Commons). Regarding the lock I am unable to verify the truth of your statements right now, but it's also not necessary to do so, local sysops should deal with this matter individually. My lock was inappropriate in the first place since the account was not clearly being abusing cross-wiki. --MF-W 16:07, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. He has to clearly identify himself on his user page, at Commons, as my brother, in order to be unblocked. But he couldn't do so, because he was still globally locked, and couldn't log in. So the first step to deal with local blocks was to get him globally unlocked. Now that he is, he can deal with the local blocks himself. DanielTom (talk) 16:19, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
