Importing non-GeoJSON map data to Wikimedia Commons

NoN This proposal is primarily for Wikipedia, Wikidata, or Commons

  • Problem: All map data at Wikimedia Commons is stored in GeoJSON format. This format is not supported by many GPS devices. The import and export of common map formats like GPX and KML/KMZ to Commons and Wikidata should be added.
  • Who would benefit: Wikimedia Commons and all wikis that use Kartographer.
  • Proposed solution: Maybe as WMF Labs tools.
