This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Please summarize your request in the "summary".

Qrc2006@iuwiki

I request permanent sysop access for iu:User:Qrc2006. (He had a temporary sysopship which expired.)

Jakoli4@stwiktionary

I would like to request administrator status for the Sesotho wiktionary again - http://st.wiktionary.org/

I've had temporary access twice before: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_permissions/Archives/2007/08#st.wikitionary.org_Sesotho_Wiktionary_Administrator_Request

I've contributed the greatest amount of the almost 900 Sesotho words found on the wiktionary, see:

http://st.wiktionary.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Jakoli4

There are some untranslated words and phrases in the environment that needs to be completed and there doesn't seem to be any administrators for it available.

Kind regards Jako Olivier (JAKOli4)

Hi Jako,
For normal adminship, you need to gather consensus at the community first. Please do so if you want to become regular admin. Effeietsanders 09:55, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done until 01 May 2008 (about 6 months), not enough editors to hold a vote for permanent adminship. Feel free to request an extension at the end of that term. —{admin} Pathoschild 21:52:09, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

AlimanRuna@quwiktionary

I request sysop access.

Thank you. AlimanRuna 10:46, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, AlimanRuna. To become an administrator, you should initiate a vote on the local project (on a page equivalent to either Meta:Administrators or Meta:Babel, the village pump), and leave it open for at least a week before you request access here. Thanks, Jon Harald Søby 11:24, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I will renew my request after one or two weeks. Sincerely AlimanRuna 15:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll archive this request in the meantime. —{admin} Pathoschild 21:54:02, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position.

Chinese (Wu) Wikipedia

I request bureaucrat/sysop access.

I request access because this Wikipedia has been dormant for quite a while now (both bureaucrat and sysop are inactive for 1-2 months now), and I would like to revive it by not only writing articles, but also performing admin/bureaucrat tasks when requested. I will also make use of these tools to translate the user interface as well as pages that haven't been fully translated. Thank you. O2 () 02:43, 13 October 2007 (GMT)

Hi! To translate the interface, BetaWiki is by far the best place to do it, you should not do it on the local project. As for bureaucrat access, a wiki doesn't really need a bureaucrat until it has about 5–6 administrators; until then, the number of bureaucrat actions needed is very small, and can be performed by stewards instead. To become an administrator, you should initiate a vote, and let it stay open for at least a week before requesting access here. Thanks, Jon Harald Søby 11:21, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

fr.wikipedia.org

Further to this decision of the Arbitration Committee on the French-language wikipedia taken today, it has been decided :

Thank you. Bapti 11:36, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't do it myself since it's my home wiki, but I confirm this request correlate with the one on the french page. DarkoNeko 12:31, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please provide confirmation from the office that these persons have identified themselves. I will in the mean time remove the checkusers that have to be removed (two remain, so that's fine). Effeietsanders 13:38, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I note btw that w:fr:User:Aoineko is still "developer" on frwiki (not sure if that has implications on CU) and that also Cary Bass has CU-rights although not mentioned. Effeietsanders 13:45, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I saw for Cary Bass and I was very suprise. w:fr:User:Aoineko wa developer before to become checkuser.
I will ask fr:User:Clem23 and fr:User:Mmenal to identify to the office.--Bapti 17:02, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cary was performing crosswiki checkuser co-ordination and his access should not be removed. I'm sure he'll do it himself once he's finished. --Deskana 11:41, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note on your local user talk page (preferably with an English translation). This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Polish Wikipedia

On behalf of the Arbitration Committee on the Polish Wikipedia I hereby request an immediate removal of sysop access from the account of pl:User:Roo72 on the said project for the period of four weeks. One point of the Committee’s unanimous verdict in the recently heard case against this user includes the following enforcement: “2. For the use of administrator tools, especially the blocking tool, without proper consideration and instead of discussion – a temporary removal of [Roo72’s] administration tools by a steward for the period of four weeks.” The verdict is enforceable on 24th October 2007 at 00:51 (CEST)/ 02:51 (UTC).

Thank you in advance,

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Aymar Wikipedia

I request temporary sysop access.

  • Language Code: ay
  • List of local sysops: Aymar Wikipedia: Local sysops
  • List of local bureaucrats: none.
  • Local User Page: ay:User:Kanon6917
  • Preferred duration and reason: 3 months, the Aymar Wikipedia needs some help: the deletion of articles that are only spam or vandalism, improve mediawiki, also for the translation of some words in the interface. I'm no an Aymar speaker, but I known some words that can be usefull for the wiki. Thanks! (and sorry for my bad english)--Kanon6917 02:26, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I strongly support this request, because it need to do cleanup and update mediawiki in wikipedia aymara. Hugo 13:23, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spacebirdy@fowikisource

I would like to request sysop access, because I am frequently watching this wiki-project. I am sysop also on fo.wiktionary and helping to globalize the interface for Faroese on Betawiki.

Many thanks in advance, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 21:33, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Upper Sorbian Wiktionary

I request sysop access so I can import our articles from the incubator. We do not have any sysops or bureaucrats yet, and I am the main contributor and the one who has entered the proposal for the project.

Thanks a lot for your time. --Ewornar 15:04, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note that import sources must be defined before. You have to request that at Bugzilla or you should request being in the "import" group. --MF-Warburg(de) 15:15, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the hint. Please add me to the "import" group as well. --Ewornar 19:21, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done You first need to have the extension activated for that. Please find consensus in the community first, then file the request on bugzilla. Effeietsanders 19:24, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Special:Import is now enabled for sysops. See bugzilla:11469, so would you please grant sysop rights to Eowrnar. --Johannes Rohr 06:56, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For permanent sysop access: please gather community consensus first, and provide a url to that. For temporary sysophood, please request some lower. (It's best is Ewornar requests that explicitely himself) Effeietsanders 16:56, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How come, I expected exactly this response? Please, folks, the hsb.wikt was only just created. Ewornar is the one who proposed it and created almost all the existing content on the incubator. He needs sysop access to get started. There is no community yet, just as there is no content. It's absolutely pointless to demand from him to simulate elections on a completely empty wiki. Please show some common sense and grant him at least temp sysop access. --Johannes Rohr 17:19, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, then please put the request there, and not for normal sysophood :) Effeietsanders 09:53, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done granted sysop access for two weeks. expires october 20 Effeietsanders 08:59, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There *is* a local request page. --Thogo (talk) 18:11, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And meanwhile there is the local support, too. :) --Ewornar 11:01, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Expirantion cancelled, user has been elected as permanent sysop. Effeietsanders 21:32, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Z@tswiki

I request temporary sysop access on the Tsonga wikipedia. The wiki is almost dead and the only active administrator is not that active. The wiki only has 10 articles and sometimes receives spam and vandalism which aren't reverted that quickly. I would like temporary sysop status to rework the main page and stop vandalism and spam

Thank you. Z 20:31, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The only administrator temporary rights has expired.Z 20:59, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Hi, there is ts:user:realdrini, and he seems to be doing some cleaning up. Further more I see no emergency, do not done for now. Effeietsanders 09:11, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think you might of made a mistake. I could not find any user by that name. Also i need it to delete pages in category for speedy deletion.
Drini is the correct name. He's a steward too. --OosWesThoesBes 17:15, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, can I then have temporary permission to rework the main page Z 21:54, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

English wikipedia

Hi! I'm a bot approvals guy from the English Wikipedia, and I need a bot, w:User:RedirectCleanupBot, given the bot flag. I'm posting here because it already has the sysop flag, so the mere mortals that usually flag bots cannot do it. The bot was approved at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RedirectCleanupBot. Thanks, ST47 11:50, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The link given above does not work, please use w:Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RedirectCleanupBot, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 12:02, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure whether this is allowed per policies. Deletions should always be visible to the community afaik. Generally it is considered not done to have both flag at the same time. I'd like a second opinion here, but I tend to negative. Effeietsanders 12:31, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The community was asked and the consensus has shown that they wish this to be done. We could have done it ourselves, but the bureaucrat who promoted must have not read the instructions on how to do it on the talk page... Ahh, I see, the RfA wasn't linked to you: w:Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/RedirectCleanupBot. Cbrown1023 talk 12:48, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, I didn't do it wrong. Bots need to be approved by BRFA to get bog flagging, and in order to pass the approvals process it needs to do a trial, for which it requires admin rights. Not that it matters anyway, it's been flagged now per my requests on the Requests for Bot Flagging page. --Deskana 18:10, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I had noticed the earlier when I appended the RfA link but forgot to append my original statement, I'm sorry. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 18:27, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I forgive you ;-) --Deskana 18:30, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
