Syrian media is reporting an Israeli attack on an observation post in Qahtaniah. The attack was carried out by tanks and destroyed the outpost. The outpost was some 150 meters from the border, and there was no word if anyone was inside at the time. Media reported no injuries.
There was no indication why the site was attacked, though Israel attacks Syria often. Israeli drones reportedly had dropped leaflets in the area, saying that locals were being used by Hezbollah. Israel has refused to comment since the attack.
Locals reported that a Hezbollah figure had visited the outpost in the past, which was quickly turned by media outlets into claims that the outpost was used by “Iranian proxies.” The Hezbollah member, Jawed Hashem, reportedly oversees Hezbollah’s operations in the Golan Heights.
This was the latest of several Israeli strikes against this part of the Syrian border area. Many of the strikes are targeting military sites near the Israeli occupied part of Golan, with claims from Israeli military officials that Syria is violating their sovereignty. Israel claimed to have annexed Golan, but this is not recognized internationally.

I can’t believe this is happening at trying times like these.
This would halt, like right now, IF we had a President with the balls to tell Israel to knock it off or the money spigot would be turned off. (quite the dreamer, aren’t I?)
Perfectly understandable self defense
What we have is the NEW government. And the top of the ticket are hardline Zionist that NEVER accepted the “two state solution”.
We have now a delicious complication.
Netanyahu led a coalition that was working within parameters set by US. He was under pressure domestically to advance annexation of West Bank, and to become more aggressive in the neighborhood. Syria and Lebanon being prime targets.
Trump was going all the way out to get these more aggressive forces to work with Netanyahu. East Jerusalem, Golan Heights, West Bank.
But it did not work. In US, Trump did not get endorsement from Israeli- supporting organizations and prominent individuals. Why not? There appears to have developed a split between Israel expansion agenda in Israel and their US supporters. The new coalition in Israel seems to point to a restlessness and impatience with stagnation. There is a sense that economically and politically country is going nowhere. But at the same time, Netanyahu ‘s supporters at home and in US are advising caution and no rash moves.
What would constitute a rash move? Anything that gets Israel in an international spotlight — not in a good way — taking US energy away from emerging challengers — and forcing it to defend Israel.
It appears that the new coalition is saying one thing publicly while doing something else. Publicly, they are vowing to be respectful of US positions. Their actions?
Very aggressive. Stoking conflict domestically — directing all domestic anger at Arab citizens. It is a fast way to redirect dissatisfaction from domestic problems. But the new action in Gaza — based on unconfirmed incidence of some balloons presumably causing fire in Israel.
Whatever it was — new rounds of missiles into Gaza are a MESSAGE. Message to Biden to stop advertising Egypt as cease fire broker.
The message to Egypt — you brought construction equipment in, and Israel does not allow any reconstruction in Gaza. Israel told Egypt NOT to bring cement into Gaza.
This is a challenge to Biden. If Biden does not want any more flare ups—- better tell Egypt to buzz off and exit Gaza.
Here is the problem for Biden — US cannot afford to make enemy out of Egypt In spite of bug human rights talk — US needs Egypt in Libya, Sudan, and in Yemen end-game.
Last thing Biden wants is to tell Egypt that those heavy construction machines must go back home.
What if Egypt does not take a hint? And Israel hits Egyptian asset or personnel? That may constitute a serious conflict with Egypt. US interests in Egypt would take a serious hit, and all Israel supporters would be at pain to defend Israel.
We should know the outcome soon. Egypt’s moves will tell the tale.
