Nike to stop selling shoes directly to Amazon, ending pilot program with online seller

Nike will stop selling shoes directly to Amazon, ending a two-year-pilot program with the mega-retailer.

The Oregon-based company says it decided to end the experiment, in which it sold products on Amazon’s website as it focuses on “elevating consumer experiences through more direct, personal relationships.”

“We will continue to invest in strong, distinctive partnerships for Nike with other retailers and platforms to seamlessly serve our consumers globally,” Nike said Wednesday in a statement to The Post.

Under the pilot program launched in 2017, Nike sold products directly to Amazon as a wholesaler to offer an alternative to third-party sellers, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the program’s end Tuesday evening.

Amazon has been courting outside merchants to make sure Nike’s products remain abundant on its marketplace after the company pulls out, Bloomberg reported.

Nike says it will continue working with Amazon Web Services to support its website and mobile apps.

Nike stock was up about 1 percent Wednesday morning while Amazon’s was down about 9 percent as of about 10:20 a.m.
