Commons Deletion Bot: System for informing a wiki when a commonly used file is used marked for deletion
Open, LowPublic

Description

In the first iteration we are proposing to only post on 10 talk pages per file, per wiki to avoid spamming the wiki with repetitive notifications. This may not solve the problem so we may want to devise a better system:

Ideas:
  • The Bot could places a notifications for commonly used images on a centralized noticeboard (per-wiki configurable place.)
  • The Bot could write on the template's talk page if an image is used in a template
  • Each wiki should be able to configure the 10 value so the bot can be as noisy as it wants
  • The value 10 should be a percentage of total uses per wiki

I don’t think people reading Village Pump will welcome every Commons DR/CSD notices sent to VP.

So, basically... if -10: notify all talk pages / +10 pages: send to /dev/null/ page.

we may want to devise a system that places notifications for commonly used images on a centralized noticeboard

Why limit to ‘commonly used’?

I agree. A dedicated page seems to make the most sense.

Why limit to ‘commonly used’?

If it's a dedicated page, then it could make sense to have a centralized feed of every image usage.
