Mailman3 apparently disregarding nonmember addresses set to accept
Open, MediumPublic

Description

I co-administer with @Trijnstel the stewards-l mailing list, which is set to reject all nonmember's postings and hold incoming messages from ^.*@wikimedia.org users. Of those posting from that domain, some regular posters were added to the nonmembers list and their addresses set to accept immediately without further actions.

Despite that, mailman3 seems to ignore this and keeps holding for moderation mail sent from @wikimedia users whose addresses are explicitly configured to be accepted in the nonmembers' list.

Is this a mailman bug or a misconfiguration from our side?

Thanks.

So to recap the problem is that you set to hold all WMF emails but overrode it per case using non-members.

I honestly think this is hacky, why not just accepting WMF emails? Your list of overrides is really long (24 AFAICS).

I will try to take a look at it later though.

Yes.

We inherited those settings from the previous listadmins. I'll have to talk to @Trijnstel about this, and see if we can agree to do a cleanup or change the settings.

However, I think it'd be interesting to investigate if mailman for some reason is ignoring or giving more preference to some settings. As things stand now, our nonmember list seems not operative for wikimedia.org addresses.

I will try to take a look at it later though.

Thank you.
