https://gitlab.com/wikimedia exists and is not owned by us

Description

I mistyped in the url for the gitlab instance and ended up at https://gitlab.com/wikimedia which uses our logo but is owned by a banned gitlab user... wondering if we can contact support and get them to delete the group or something?

Once we go public with the new instance other people might make the same mistake.

Event Timeline

I have submitted GitLab support request 234651 via https://support.gitlab.com/ and CC'ed Tyler on it.

and I don't think that I myself have capacity right now to get into such legal territories.

cc: @thcipriani, @greg: I think there was some prior discussion about this, but I haven't been able to find it.

IIRC, we talked about in our earliest meetings with folks at GitLab. This seems like something they ought to be able to fix for us.

hrm...not sure how to view that. Is there a direct link?

@thcipriani: In theory https://support.gitlab.com/hc/requests/234651 if we had some login; in practice it's Zendesk sending mail. I've forwarded that email to you.

Tyler and (GitLab's) Greg sorted this out. It is now owned by us: https://gitlab.com/groups/wikimedia/-/group_members

thcipriani claimed this task.

I added a redirect to https://gitlab.wikimedia.org from the Wikimedia gitlab. Claiming victory for now (although there may be more things we'd like to do with this group that can be future tasks).
