Description

Please make sure that you read and understood https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Gerrit/Privilege_policy , and provide all required information:

  • Your Gerrit username: Zoranzoki21
  • The Gerrit repository or repositories to which access is required: extension-HidePrefix
  • Your reason, including links to patches written and reviewed: I would like to take care about maintenance for this extension.

I made a patch https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/extensions/HidePrefix/+/678375 which isn't reviewed still, also there is another one which didn't get reviewed https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/extensions/HidePrefix/+/289679.

Current repo ownership is https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/admin/groups/c4711794ed952ed15633a102a9077cfd5c1db3a1,members which only lists Van de Bugger (SUL user, Developer account). Per https://guc.toolforge.org/?by=date&user=Van+de+Bugger they do not seem to have been active on Wikimedia project wikis since 2012.

Do we as a technical community have any usurpation policy for MediaWiki extensions? Toolforge has one, but that would not apply here.

@Kizule My bad for not noticing your replies to my comments on the extreg patch! I've +2'd that now. Thanks for working on that extension! 👍

@bd808 I can't recall but it's rather obvious if and when an extension is largely unmaintained and receives only drive-by patches by community members doing mass changes (e.g. "replace deprecated wfFoo with its modern services equivalent" or so), and it seems that the HidePrefix extension in one such thing. I'm more than happy to support @Kizule's request; having an active maintainer is always more than welcome, and there already are way too many extensions without an active named maintainer.

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Template:Unmaintained_extension points at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Gerrit/Privilege_policy#Requesting_Gerrit_privileges as the how to request takeover. That link has survived through many years and edits to that template by folks like @demon who would almost certainly have changed things if that was not reasonable consensus.

No objections have been raised on the wikitech-l request or this task in 40 days. +1 from me to give @Kizule +2 in the repo (yeah I see what I did there). If I had the right hat in gerrit I would {{sofixit}}. As @ashley said in T305317#7926083, it's pretty obvious when something is in need of an active maintainer.
