Question:
What is the City of Tacoma's leash law?
Answer:
In the City, all dogs must be on a leash no longer than 8 feet or confined to their owner's property at all times. The only exception provided for by ordinance is dogs in a designated off-leash area. An off-leash area in Tacoma is at Rogers Park, at the intersection of East 34th Street and East L Street. Outside of off-leash areas, dogs roaming free are in violation of the leash law ordinance. They may be seized or impounded by Tacoma Police and Animal Control officers. Owners of dogs running loose may receive a summons and/or fine.
To report a dog running loose or for more information about the leash law, please contact Tacoma Animal Care and Control on our service request page call (253) 627-PETS(7387), or go online in TacomaFIRST 311, and
