Open Source for Open Knowledge
Wikimedia is a global movement whose mission is to bring free knowledge to the world.
To do this, we keep the Wikimedia sites fast, reliable, and available to all. We run the free encyclopedia Wikipedia, the multi-lingual structured database Wikidata, the media repository Wikimedia Commons, and other free knowledge projects. We build software to make it easy to read, edit, and share from the Wikimedia sites. Our technology empowers diverse users and communities around the world to contribute and access knowledge.
In this blog, you can find stories written by the Wikimedia technical community about the technology and software behind running a top 10 website and how Open Source makes it possible.
If you have an idea for a story, see the editorial guidelines for more information on how to publish posts in this blog.
The Wikimedia Tech blog is administered by the Wikimedia Developer Advocacy Team.
