Max Lagace of the Chicago Wolves became the first goaltender in American Hockey League history to be credited with scoring a Calder Cup Playoff goal during Saturday night’s Western Conference Finals game in San Diego.
With an extra Gulls attacker on the ice during a delayed penalty, Lagace made a save on a shot by Isac Lundestrom. San Diego maintained possession, and moments later Lundestrom’s backwards pass from center ice missed its connection and slid into vacated net.
The goal, at 10:49 of the third period, gave Chicago a 4-2 lead. The Wolves went on to a 5-2 victory, and now have a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Lagace also made 19 saves in the game to earn the win.
