No one knows how they met, where they went on dates, how they spent time together, what holidays they went to, and to this day, no one knows for sure how many years they dated. Yes, we are talking of Bollywood’s biggest ‘heist’, the secretive wedding of 2021 – Vicky Kaushal weds Katrina Kaif. There’s a social media rush trying to figure out how they pulled this off and what they will do next.

All of us know a couple of details, thanks to the over-enthusiastic paparazzi catering to our hunger, and we have now seen photos of Vicky and Katrina travelling to Jaipur. But remember, this is a couple who still don’t have a proper photo together. Ever since the news broke of them getting married — it still has no official confirmation – media houses and social media pages have been making collages or photoshopping them together. Even India Today’s Chaiti Narula stood in front of their wedding venue – the Six Senses Fort in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan.

Not even 48 hours left for the big day, and the only “confirmation” we have is the district collector saying that they have been informed that 120 people will attend the wedding and that RT-PCR tests for the guests are compulsory.

So, for the time being, with no actual confirmation or photos, we are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Numerous visuals are keeping us hooked onto the wedding – fireworks in the Rajasthan fort, a motorcade in Jaipur, someone possibly carrying Vicky Kaushal’s wedding sherwani in a zip bag, Katrina going to his house, her sister Isabelle landing in Jaipur along with other friends and family, Vicky leaving her house. But not one photo of them even holding hands, hugging or just seated together in the car. So we are feeding on ludicrous ‘news’ instead – the groom will ride in with seven horses, the bride has a Punjabi coach, drones will be shot down, they will dance to ‘Teri Ore’.

A feat like no other

Why is it a heist? Because they have pulled off something impossible – privacy while being leading Bollywood stars. All we are hearing is speculation.

Some have said that the couple got married on Friday, at a court in Mumbai, under the Special Marriage Act. Others say Vicky Kaushal will have a grand entrance in a chariot, and that the couple will be airlifted to the venue to avoid paparazzi. There’s gossip about guests being given security code numbers for entry.

The few videos of Vicky and Katrina we had, have now gone crazy viral. Including their first one together — TapeCast Season 2 by Film Companion. They talk to each other about family, friends and work. Another one is a Koffee with Karan clip where Katrina says that she would look good with Vicky on screen and he swoons on hearing that later. A third includes Vicky proposing to Katrina during an award function he hosted with Kartik Aryan where he asks, “Aap kisi acche se Vicky Kaushal ko dekhke shaadi kyu nahi kar lete ho?

It’s all cute, but we still are assuming their dating timeline. Is it two or two-and-a-half years? It is as if they are secret agents in a world full of smartphone cameras, reels, obsessed fans and passive watchers. We can only wonder how they managed to pull it off. Perhaps the pandemic and lockdown had a part to play in it.

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan, the guests supposedly signed a non-disclosure agreement and the staff will use old black-and-white mobiles without cameras. All this is just building up the buzz, and the bomb will be their first photo together from the day of the wedding. That will be their exclusive in a world that is growing smaller each day.

Choosing silence

It is quite interesting that Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif chose to remain silent – it is their relationship and they chose the right to privacy. And why wouldn’t they? The paparazzi, the crowds don’t let these stars leave their gyms, homes and restaurants in peace, everything is instantly documented, posted, and dissected.

What if they had announced their relationship? Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor had started that trend long back. Vicky and Katrina definitely thought it would cause more harm than good. Look at what just the buzz of the wedding has generated. The security at the venue includes 100 bouncers, which some reports claim are from Salman Khan’s bodyguard’s company, apart from local police.

Now, we can all wait for 9 December to finally see the couple’s photos together. A couple we didn’t even know for sure were together. If this isn’t the coolest stunt, then what is?
