Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan takes over as Eastern Army Commander

KOLKATA: Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan took over as the general officer commanding-in-chief, eastern command, on Sunday. He assumed office with a solemn wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial of eastern command Vijay Smarak.
General Chauhan is an alumnus of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Fort William, Kolkata from where he was selected to the National Defence Academy (NDA).
He graduated from the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in June 1981 and was commissioned into the 6th Battalion of the 11th Gorkha Rifles.
Lt Gen Chauhan has a vast experience of both conventional and counter insurgency operations. All his command assignments have either been in the Kashmir valley or in the northeastern states. Prior to his posting to the Eastern Command, he was the director general of military operations at the Army headquarters in New Delhi.
