Renowned author and columnist Immanuel Mifsud says he is not surprised that an increasing number of Maltese people are packing their bags to seek better pastures abroad.

"It is easier and more seductive to leave Malta nowadays," says the author who won the European Prize for Literature in 2011.

In an interview with Times Talk, Mr Mifsud pins the blame on political parties, which he believes continue stifling society and people's ability to think.

"In the past we had a church we followed blindly. Today, we've turned our two (main) parties into a church with two leaders who have morphed into our bishops."
