In Guinea-Bissau, in addition to those challenges, we’ve been working hard to pave the way for a seamless transition to a non-mission setting and for the UN reconfiguration. In this context, with a modest program of celebrations, UN Day will close a series of activities organized since June to observe the UN75 anniversary, including the survey launched by the Secretary-General to which 2500 Bissau-guineans have responded, three online dialogues and 4 regional djumbais on UN 75.

All these activities were organized with the national Youth Network (RENAJ) and National youth Council (CNJ) and they are the ones to lead the UN day celebrations.

The program includes a radio debate on Radio Jovem on 22 October, at 5 pm; a visit and Open Lecture on the UN by UN senior officials at the Media Consortium (CMICS) Multimedia Centre, where is functioning the first professional journalism course of the country, on 23 October at 10 am.

On UN day itself, October 24, the UN family will join efforts with the community association to clean and repair the Meterologia park in Bissau. At night, after the news on National TV, we will be screening the film “Nations United”, followed by a televised debate on the UN 75 on National TV (TGB) with the Deputy-Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator, Mamadou Diallo, the WHO Representative, Jean-Marie Kipella, Guinea-Bissau researcher of political science, Rui Jorge Semedo and CNJ secretary for policy and civic education, Damião Mendes.

The debate was pre-recorded on 20 October at the National Research Institute before a live audience of 15 youth leaders who positively “grilled” the panel with questions about the UN in the world and in Guinea-Bissau, its challenges and conveying their vision for the future.

“Your questions already convey your vision of the UN. It is up to you to build it, to build the future you want”, DSRSG/RC Mamadou Diallo told the young leaders.

On the occasion of UN 75 celebration the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-general in Guinea-Bissau and head of UNIOGBIS, Rosine Sori-Coulibaly would like to “encourage all Bissau Guineans to continue the work towards a national consensus around the priorities of this country, regardless of who has power. This will strengthen the foundation that I hope we had a part in building and turn the page forward on the path of development. “.

In his official message for UN Day, Secretary-general Guterres also put the tone on the fact that the UN belongs to us all, “we the peoples” and called on everyone to work together to “realize our shared vision of a better world for all.”
